$72 BUSINESS CLASS FLIGHT ON SINGAPORE AIRLINES

May 20, 2018

There is nothing I love more than being fabulous. Well, except for being fabulous AND not spending any money.

Here is a step by step tutorial of how I booked my Business Class flight from Singapore to Los Angeles for just $72. (And mind you, that's a 19 hour flight.)

STEP 1: OPEN THE CHASE SAPPHIRE RESERVE CREDIT CARD

If you don't already have the CHASE SAPPHIRE RESERVE Credit Card you should open it IMMEDIATELY. In my opinion this is the one credit card that is a must for travelers. Here are the cliff notes:

  • 50,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in 3 months *Step 2 shows how to achieve this and not actually spend that much in 3 months

  • The card has a $450 annual fee (but you get $300 back for travel related purchases so really it's a $150 annual fee)

  • You get 3x the points on food and travel related expenses

  • Free TSA Pre Check

  • Free Priority Pass membership (so you can get into airport lounges and eat and drink for free)

  • There is a wide variety of travel partners you can redeem your miles on

And if you're worried about opening too many cards because your Credit Score will be crap? Well, don't be. I have 5 open credit cards and as long as you pay them off in a timely manner, my credit score has literally-no-joke never been better!

STEP 2: GET THE 50,000 MILE SIGN UP BONUS

Now that you have your card, you want to get that 50,000 miles sign up bonus. Spending $4,000 in 3 months might SEEM like a crazy amount but here are a few tips on how to meet your goal quickly and not actually spend that much money:

  • Pay for your significant other, family or friends using your credit card and have them Venmo you

  • Purchase a flat screen TV (or a couple) from Costco, wait until the points are in your account, transfer them to a travel partner and then return the TVs. Their return policy is 90 days so you have plenty of time. Or buy literally anything from Nordstrom

  • Sign up for Coinbase and purchase Bitcoin with your credit card. Then sell your Bitcoin and have it transfer back into your Bank Account. *This is a whole process that I will write about later so PLEASE do your research before going in

STEP 3: GET AN EXTRA 38,000 MILES

Now that you have your 50,000 miles you are more than half way there! My flight from Singapore to Los Angeles requires 88,000 miles which means I now only need 38,000 more miles. Here is how to get those:

  • Refer 4 of your friends. For every friend that signs up for a Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card you will get 10,000 miles

  • Repeat options from Step 2

  • OR you can open up a second credit card, the KrisFlyer American Express Card and get 15,000 bonus miles

STEP 4: CREATE A KRISFLYER ACCOUNT

You will also want to CREATE AN ACCOUNT on KrisFlyer. Super simple and free.

STEP 5: FIND YOUR FLIGHT

Next you will want to search for a flight through the Singapore Airlines website. MAKE SURE IT ISN'T WAITLISTED. You want to find a "SAVER AWARD" flight so you get the best deal.

STEP 6: REDEEM YOUR MILES

Now that you found the flight you want, you need to redeem your miles. The BEST way to redeem your Chase Sapphire Reserve miles is by logging into your Chase account and clicking "Transfer to Travel Partners"

DO NOT TRY TO BOOK A FLIGHT THROUGH THE CHASE SYSTEM. The points are worth far less if you do it that way.

After clicking on "Transfer to Travel Partners" you will see all of Chase Sapphire's airline partners and you can scroll down to KrisFlyer (AKA Singapore Airlines). You then simply just transfer the correct amount of miles. Your miles will show up in about 24 hours.

STEP 7: PURCHASE YOUR FLIGHT

24 hours later you can go to Singapore Airlines website and log in with your KrisFlyer account. Then search and purchase your flight! My flight was 88,000 + $72 (in taxes).

Cheers to being cheap AF but always fabulous!

I also just booked my flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo on American Airlines in Business Class for just $5 using the American Airlines Credit Card. I'll be writing a separate post on that one soon.

Happy Traveling!
