I did something I never imagined I could do. I quit a steady job, let go of my dream apartment, sold my car, cancelled my gym membership and said farewell to everyone and everything I knew. I am not one to make rash decisions. I am far from a dare devil. I hate the unknown and the concept of starting over is more terrifying than being a passenger on Malaysia Airlines. But when I looked at my life and thought about my regrets, not traveling was at the top of the list.

I can make a million excuses but at the end of...

I recently heard a really funny story where my friends mom was staying at the Holiday Inn in Iowa. Her Holiday Inn happened to look out onto a corn field. Her mom, being the frugal (and very creative) lady that she is, saw this as the perfect opportunity for a free dinner. She snuck into this corn field, sneakily pulled out some corn husks and brought them back to her hotel room. She washed them in the bathroom sink and stuck them in the microwave. Voila, she had a free meal of corn on the cob in the comfort of her ho...

After work I walked to yoga with two of the girls from the office. I find yoga to be such a great way to wind down after the work week and luckily there are lots of great studios around Dubai. This time we went to Fitness First in Downtown where my friends are both members. One friend has special status due to being a long-term member so she...

I think I died and went to Europe...

I have lived in Los Angeles for nearly 10 years and I can't believe I've never been to this glorious island.

The journey starts with Catalina Express. Trulo Tip! For an extra $15 you can upgrade to the Commodore's Lounge which is on the upper tier of the ferry, it includes a snack and a cocktail. AND if you tend to get sea sick (like yours truly) this lends to a very smooth ride.

By the time you've finished your cocktail, you've arrived in Avalon. To be honest, I had zero expe...

Occupation: Au Pair

Industry: Childcare

Age: 30 (Fun fact: 30 is not too old to be eligible for such an arrangement.)

About Me: Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, I’ve lived in New Zealand for five months working as an au pair. My background is in School Counseling, and live-in childcare work proved to be my best choice in New Zealand, a country where I wanted to afford traveling like a true local for a while. For 25 hours of work each week, I’m compensated with room and board and weekly spending money, which has allo...
